BothformshavesimilarpotenciesandaresuitableformicroBIOLOGyuse;however,amoxicillinsodiumiseasiertoworkwithinaqueoussolution.Clavulanatepotassium(clavulanicacid)isaβ-lactamaseinhibitorwhichcanirreversIBLyinactivateβ-lactamaseenzymesofβ-lactamresistantmicrobespreventingthemfrombreakingdownβ-lactamantibiotics.Amoxicillincanbecombinedwithclavulanatepotassiumforgreaterefficacyagainstβ-lactamresistantstrains.
