Isoniazid acts as a prodrug which must be activated by catalase, an enzyme produced by bacteria to prevent formation of unstable oxygen radicals. Once activated, isoniazid binds to and inactivates InhA, an enoyl-reductase involved in mycolic acid synthesis.
