MechanismofAction

Bacitracinpreventsphosphorylationofbactoprenol,atransportproteinwhichcarriespeptidoglycancomponentsoutsidethecellmembrane.Withouttheactivephosphorylatedbactoprenol,peptidoglycansynthesiscannotbecompletedandthecelllyses.ResistancetoBacitracinisunderstoodtoinvolvetwomechanisms:Aproteintransporter(BcrABC)whichpumpsbacitracinoutofthecellafterithasentered,andviaanotherprotein(BacA)whichprovidestheactivephosphorylatedbactoprenolfromadifferentsyntheticpathway.
